WP-Spotify – fixed for WP 3.2.1

I’ve been asked a few times about the WP-Spotify plugin on my page.  An awesome plugin created by David Hermansson allows WordPress users to link tracks, artists and albums to Spotify.  Unfortunately with progress on WordPress to version 3.x the plugin appears to hit a few snags when returning album details.  As the plugin seems to be “on-hold” currently, I thought I’d have a play to get it working with the newest version of WordPress (currently 3.2.1).

I’ve made a few changes to version 1.1 of the plugin to get the album track to display again so hopefully it will help the community to keep spreading the good work of the original author.

Download WP-Spotify -fixed here.

Note: If you have tried to install the plugin in the past ensure that the WP-Spotify tables in SQL are completely empty otherwise the album field will not populate itself.

Edit: As mentioned, after clearing the WP-Spotify tables in SQL, you must go back to any posts that have a Spotify track and hit ‘update’ -- thanks to Dionysus for pointing this out.

Outstanding fix! Thanks so much for this. After emptying the wp_spotify table, and installing the plugin, it’s necessary to edit the posts containing a spotify track.Just hitting “update” is sufficient to make WP re-read the db and voilà , the spotify track becomes visible again.

Great! Now it works for tracks. Thanks! Is there anything special I should do in order to display albums and artists. Things like this don’t seem to work: [spotify:artist:2P1puQXmG48EVLBrHbum1J]

Artists and albums don’t work due to version 1.1 never having any functions to convert the Spotify URI based on these attributes. i.e. the original author never finished these features.

Do you need to have some sort of plug-in for your browser for this to work? When I click play above, I get this message: Firefox doesn’t know how to open this address, because the protocol (spotify) isn’t associated with any program.

Havent used Firefox for a while but back in the Spotify beta in most cases a reinstall of Spotify fixed the program assignment (in Windows). Failing that a reinstall of Firefox (or upgrading the browser to the newest release if you havent already) as this should give you the option to open the link in an application…then simply point it towards your Spotify application.
